   About Us

Cony Creek between Lower & Middle Hutchison Lakes

Wild Basin Outfitters offers guided fly fishing trips in Rocky Mountain National Park for the beginner or experienced fly fisher, with a client to guide ratio of no more than 2 to 1.  This level of personal service allows us to always be close to help land fish, take photographs, or provide tips and instruction.

To our knowledge we are the only guide service in the area that:
   - Includes all equipment, including flies, at no additional charge
   - Starts the clock when you're on the water, not when you leave the shop

We are a catch & release, fly fishing only, company which means that the only things we bring back on any of our guided trips are photographs and great memories.

Wild Basin Outfitters, offers half-day (4-hour) and full-day (8-hour) walk & wade trips, and hike-in backcountry trips, in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

We are not offering classes, overnight or horseback trips in 2008.

Wild Basin Outfitters is fully insured and bonded, and has valid permits to operate as an Outfitter in Colorado (Outfitter #2210), as well as in Rocky Mountain National Park.  We are proud to say that we have not had any clients hurt, nor have we ever been cited for any violations.  Our guides are not only experienced fly fishers, they are also certified by the American Red Cross in First Aid and CPR.

We are also members of the Federation of Fly Fishers and Trout Unlimited, non-profit fly fishing organizations that are dedicated to conservation, restoration and education.

Your Guides:

Chris Conway is the owner / operator of Wild Basin Outfitters.  With over 35 years of wilderness fly fishing experience in Alaska and throughout the West, 10 of those in the Park, Chris enjoys leading trips into the "wild" side of the Park, making sure that his clients have a safe and satisfying trip away from the road.

Favorite Rod:
   - Redington RS3 3-weight
Favorite Destination:
   - Thunder Lake

Dave Clark has been guiding in Rocky Mountain National Park for over 15 years, and fished the Park and Indian Peaks Wilderness for more than 20 years.  Dave has been Head Guide for Wild Basin Outfitters since the company was started in 2002, and has the company record of putting his clients into the biggest fish they have ever caught.

Most notably are these two examples:

  - A rainbow at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch that was 27" and approximately 7 pounds.

  - A Greenback cutthroat at Lilly Lake that was 22" and approximately 4 pounds.

Favorite Rod:
   - Scott Fiberglass 2-weight
Favorite Destination:
   - Cow Creek

Parker Scherman is a senior at CSU in Fort Collins and majors is geology and fly fishing.  OK, the university doesn't have fly fishing course work, but once you spend a day on the water with Parker you realize this guy lives for it.
A Colorado native, Parker has fished the high country lakes and streams for years.  His enthusiasm and new ideas have been a breath of fresh air for us.
